Since the conclusion of the regular season, where Maryland finished, 25-8( 13-5 Big Ten), one Terp has already earned an invitation to the WNBA draft with star guard Shyanne Sellers set to attend Draft night on Monday, April 14, at 7:30 p.m. in New York.
Sellers spent her entire collegiate career at Maryland, which seems to be rare in today's college athletics, especially with the transfer portal becoming increasingly popular.
In her final year as a Terp, Sellers became the first player in program history to record 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists. The senior also averaged 14.4 points, 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists per game this season.
By the end of her career, Sellers recorded 1,676 points, 595 rebounds, and 523 assists and entrenched herself among the program's best under Brenda Frese.
Sellers was also named to the All-Big Ten First Team for her third consecutive season, was an Associated Press All-America Honorable Mention and named Big Ten Player of the Week back in January.
It seemed that there wasn’t one place Sellers was uncomfortable with on the court. Sellers shot an impressive 83% from the free-throw line in her career, ranking second in the Maryland record book. Kristi Toliver (2006-09) currently reserves the No.1 spot after shooting 86.6% during her career.
While subject to change, multiple outlets project that Sellers will land in DC with the Mystics with the sixth overall pick.
Sellers will look to become the eighth Terp in the WNBA alongside Chloe Bibby (Golden State Valkyries), Kaila Charles (Dallas Wings), Brianna Fraser (Seattle Storm), Brionna Jones (Atlanta Dream), Diamond Miller (Minnesota Lynx), Alyssa Thomas (Phoenix Mercury) and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough (Atlanta Dream).
