OLB Kellan Wyatt departs Maryland football, set to enter transfer portal

In arguably the biggest blow to the program to-date, OLB Kellan Wyatt has also announced his departure hours after OL Terez Davis announced his intention to enter the transfer portal next week.

After appearing in 35 games and starting in 27 over the last three seasons, Wyatt totaled 80 tackles, 15 TFLs, 8.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass deflection. He also leaves the program as the second-most experienced player on the defensive side of the ball behind Caleb Wheatland, who has appeared in just one more game than Wyatt at Maryland, while Wyatt led the Terps’ defense in TFLs and finished second in sacks in 2024.

“Last year I was just trying to get the playbook down, memorize what I needed to do in order for me to play,” Wyatt said after of the 2024 season. “Now that I know a good amount, I can actually try to insert myself in certain ways as far as making plays,” he added.

Wyatt is also one of several former Spalding stars in the program alongside QB Malik Washington, SAF Lavain Scruggs, LB Keyshawn Flowers and DL Keion Flowers while DB Jayden Shipps and OL Delmar White will enroll in January.

Wyatt joins OT Terez Davis and WR Braeden Wisloski as early entries ahead of the spring transfer portal window, set to officially open on Wednesday, April 16.

Meanwhile, Maryland is currently expected to return Caleb Wheatland, Daniel Wingate and Trey Reddick as anchors of the linebacker unit ahead of the 2025 season.
