Ahead of its biggest scrimmage during spring ball, Maryland football was dealt another big blow on Saturday morning after second-year offensive lineman Terez Davis announced his departure.
“First and foremost I would like to thank The University of Maryland, coach Locks, my position/strength coaches, teammates, and the entire Maryland community for the opportunity to grow both on and off the field. I’ve made lifelong friendships, memories, and learned valuable lessons from this leadership. After a lot of prayer, I’ve made the decision to enter my name in the NCAA transfer portal next week. This decision was not made lightly but I believe it is the best step for my future as a student athlete. I’m excited for what’s next and looking forward to the opportunities ahead. Recruitment is open,” Davis posted on X.
Davis becomes the third departure this week and second in as many days after DL Lavon Johnson, who was expected to play a significant role in the trenches, announced his departure from the program.
Davis was a candidate to start along the 2025 offensive lineman after appearing with the first-team during both open portions during spring ball. While freshman Jaylen Gilchrist, along with transfers Rahtrel Perry and Isaiah Wright, are also expected to be big pieces along the offensive line, Davis also serves as a blow to the long-term outlook at the position.
The son of former NBA star Ricky Davis, Terez Davis committed to Maryland in the spring of his junior year before schools like Auburn and Penn State worked to change his mind in the weeks leading up to signing day.
