Maryland makes top five for nation’s top prospect

Maryland welcomes its final group of official visitors to campus this weekend, but the good news started after the Terps made the cut for one of the top prospects in the country on Friday when Friendship (DC) five-star edge rusher Dylan Stewart announced his top five.

Maryland made the cut alongside Ohio State, Georgia, South Carolina and Miami (FL) with a summer commitment expected. Stewart kicked off the month with an official visit to Georgia before venturing to Coral Gables to check out the ‘Canes. Ohio State hosted the explosive 6-foot-5 edge rusher for an official visit last weekend, while Stewart began his official visit to South Carolina on Friday.

Stewart hasn’t taken an official visit to Maryland just yet as defensive coordinator Brian Williams has led the way in his recruitment. Both Stewart and Deandre Cook, who excluded Maryland from his top group this week, made their way to College Park back in April while the Terps were in the midst of spring ball. With head coach Mike Locksley chipping in on the Terps’ recruiting efforts for the elite edge rusher, the biggest hurdle for Maryland has been convincing Stewart to stay local for college.

“I would love to stay with the home team but I just don’t know if I want to stay in the city,” Stewart said back in January. With Stewart eyeing a late summer commitment, Maryland will work to get him on campus when the dead period ends in late July heading into a summer decision. Stewart is the nation’s top prospect and rated a five-star, according to On3. Related Links
