Maryland basketball is awaiting the next step for Paul VI (VA) four-star guard Deshawn Harris-Smith, but before then, the Terps made the cut for Putnam Science (CT) four-star forward Mouhamed Dioubate. Dioubate revealed that Alabama, Kansas State, Maryland, Virginia Tech and Wake Forest are his top five schools with an official visit schedule set to be unveiled in the coming days. The 6-foot-7 forward was offered by Maryland back on May 31 as head coach Kevin Willard has played a hand in recruiting the summer target with assistant Grant Billmeier serving as the Terps' primary recruiter. “Coach likes me. He’s coached a lot of New York guys before . They stay in contact with me. I like the conference they’re in,” Dioubate told Zagsblog on Thursday. With recent IMG Academy transfer Jamie Kaiser and St. Frances guard Jahnathan Lamothe already in the fold and Maryland among the finalists for local four-star guard Deshawn Harris-Smith, Maryland’s expected five-man class could finalize the backcourt this month as the attention shifts to the frontcourt with Dioubate filling a role as the wing target. Dioubate averaged 13.6 points, 7.7 rebounds and 1.1 assists per game while shooting 54% from the floor for the PSA Cardinals (NY) this summer and flashed his motor and strength around the rim. Dioubate is rated a four-star prospect and a 92 overall by On3, sitting as the 87th-best prospect in the country.
