NFL Preseason Week One: Former Maryland Terps Kick Off 2022 Season

NFL preseason football enters week two tonight as several former Terps saw the field in last week’s opener. Breaking down all the action and how they fared:

  • Panthers LB Jermaine Carter: Recorded one tackle for the Chiefs in their 19-14 loss to the Bears. Carter is fighting for a roster spot.
  • Chiefs RB Tayon Fleet-Davis: Fleet-Davis had two carries for zero yards with a long of three and two catches for three yards with the Chiefs. He was signed by Kansas City after going undrafted.
  • Colts DL Bryon Cowart: Recorded one tackle in the Colts’ 27-24 loss to the Bills. Cowart was claimed by Indianapolis after being waived by the Patriots.
  • Colts SAF Nick Cross: Cross had three tackles, one solo, against the Bills. Cross was listed as the Colts’ starting safety last week.

  • Colts DE Yannick Ngakoue: Didn’t play in the Colts game against the Bills. Ngakoue was traded to the Colts from the Raiders in the offseason.

  • Chargers CB JC Jackson: Didn’t play for the Chargers in their loss to the Rams. Jackson was signed to a big deal by the Chargers in the offseason.
  • Seahawks DL Quinton Jefferson: Played 12 snaps in the Seahawks’ 32-25 loss to the Steelers. Jefferson is back where his career in the NFL began.
  • Seahawks TE Tyler Mabry: Was targeted twice with one pass for seven yards for the Seahawks.
  • Steelers RB Anthony McFarland: Had seven carries for 56 yards with a long of 24 in the Steelers’ win over the Seahawks. McFarland is looking to win the backup spot behind Najee Harris. The second-year running back has flashed his original speed in practice as he hopes to become a staple in the Steelers’ offense.

  • Jets RB Ty Johnson: Missed the Jets’ 24-21 win against the Eagles with a hamstring injury. Johnson, who is in a fight to make the final roster, returned to practice this week.
  • Bengals LB Keandre Jones: Recorded five tackles, three solos, and a QB hit in the Bengals’ 346-23 loss to the Cardinals. Jones could find himself on the Bengals’ 53-man roster with more performances like that.
  • Panthers WR DJ Moore: Didn’t play in the Panthers’ 23-21 win over Washington.
  • Titans TE Chigoziem Okonkwo: The rookie was targeted twice with one catch for five yards in the Titans’ 23-10 loss to the Ravens. Okonkwo is battling for playing time as a rookie.
