Maryland Makes Top Eight for Local Four-Star QB Mike Van Buren

2024 St. Frances four-star quarterback Mike Van Buren announced his top group of schools on Thursday as he takes a closer look inside his recruitment.

Cincinnati, Maryland, Miami, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Virginia Tech and Wisconsin made the top eight for the dual-threat quarterback. The 5-foot-11 quarterback got a chance to stop through College Park multiple times this year, including for a pair of home games, while the staff trekked through the Baltimore powerhouse on Monday. Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson is leading his recruitment while the growing relationship between Van Buren and offensive coordinator Dan Enos has improved Maryland’s chances through the cycle.

“I feel like Taulia throws the ball around to his playmakers and he puts up pretty big numbers. I was talking with coach Enos and he said he reminds me a lot of Taulia. He feels like I can really fit in his system and I agree with that, I think that system really fits me. Taulia also runs a little bit so my running ability will show too.” Head coach Mike Locksley also got a chance to get one-on-one time this fall.

“He told me I need to be down there every chance that I get, bring my family down there all the time and get to know the program. Just get this thing rolling, he pretty much tells me I’m his guy. He loves ballers staying at home, so that’s pretty much his main message to me. Why leave? Why leave when you can play ball in your backyard?”

Van Buren started gaining recognition on the recruiting trail after playing sportingly as a sophomore, but his rise to stardom continued through the offseason as he wrapped up his first full season the starting quarterback at St. Frances.
