Maryland inks second portal running back in 2026 offseason

After inking for USC running back Harry Dalton in the winter, Maryland football has inked a second portal running back this offseason.

Former Temple running back and Salisbury, Md. native Terrez Worthy is transferring to Maryland, arriving with one year of eligibility remaining.

Worthy was named to the Paul Hornung Watch List, awarded to the top all-purpose player in college football, along with the Doak Walker Watch List during his final season at Temple before totaling 71 rushing yards, 74 receiving yards and two total touchdowns in four games. In 2024, Worthy posted 425 yards and four rushing touchdowns while averaging 5.4 yards per carry. He arrived with the Owls after playing at Lackawanna College in 2023 where he totaled nearly 1,500 yards and ten touchdowns on 203 carries to lead the NJCAA.

Worthy also served as the Owls' primary kickoff returner in 2024 where he averaged over 20 yards per return.

The local product now heads to College Park as the final piece in a running back room that will return a blend of new and familiar faces.

While Nolan Ray departed, DeJuan Williams finalized his return where he steps into a possible lead back role. Iverson Howard is also set to return for his second season while USC transfer and Virginia native Harry Dalton arrived looking to capitalize on a potential expanded role in College Park. Bud Coombs, currently dazzling for Maryland baseball this spring, will also return to football in the fall. Worthy's arrival also came to fruition after former Old Dominion running back Trequan Jones became the first portal commitment of the offseason before ultimately signing with Tulsa.
