Maryland Football lands second 2027 pledge out of Tennessee

Maryland has added 2027 commits in consecutive days after Tenn. DL Jayden Agberodiola went public with his decision.

Agberodiola, a 6-foot-3, 340-pound nose tackle, committed to Maryland over Arkansas and USF. He first visited College Park for the Spring Showcase back in late April before returning for his official visit the weekend of June 4.

“I got to learn more about coach [Mike Locksley’s] mentorship program and just talk to him more, get to know him more,” Agberodiola told IBG. “The coaching staff is very admirable. I’m still building it with coach Starks but coach Newsome is locked in with me. He knows what buttons to push in a good way. Very open, very welcoming. Everyone really on the visit, they kept making sure I’m good.”

Defensive line coach Randy Starks was able to dive into his fit during his latest extended visit, but it was defensive backs assistant Nick Newsome who led the way to snag a pair of commitments out of Tennessee this cycle as Agberodiola joins linebacker 'Duke' Clark in the fold.

Maryland also pointed to UCF transfer Derrick LeBlanc as the current player that fits how Agberodiola fits into defensive coordinator Ted Monachino’s scheme. “It’s a good scheme because it’s an NFL scheme and he has a lot of experience under his belt. He’s coached a lot of greats, the Baltimore defense and being part of that is phenomenal.”

As a junior at Rockvale High School, he recorded 35 tackles, 10.5 TFLs, three sacks, one forced fumble and one interception after transferring into the program ahead of the season. He becomes the 13th commitment in Maryland's 2027 class heading into the final official visit weekend that features a trio of priority targets out of the DMV.
