JUCO center becomes final 2026-27 addition for Maryland men's basketball

Maryland men's basketball filled its final scholarship over the weekend by adding to the frontcourt.

While he has yet to announce his decision, JUCO 7-footer Alexandre K'Medehouto is set to replace Rakease Passmore's spot on Maryland men's basketball's 2026-27 roster and was in College Park over the weekend to move in, not for a visit.

At JUCO in 2025-26, K'Medehouto started in all but 32 games at South Plains College where he averaged 3.8 points and 4.6 rebounds while shooting over 74% from the field and 57% from the free throw line. Initially signed to UTEP, K'Medehouto also took an official visit to UCF after last season where he is expected to have two years of eligibility remaining.

The addition was made possible after guard/wing Rakease Passmore entered the transfer portal, becoming the sixth player to do so alongside Darius Adams, Aleks Alston, Nick Blake, Jaziah Harper, Myles Rice and Isaiah Watts. Passmore also departed without ever appearing in a Maryland uniform after the program announced in late Sept. that the Kansas transfer was set to miss the entire 2025-26 regular season due to a torn Achilles tendon. Passmore was also one of two Jayhawks to transfer into the program last offseason alongside combo guard Diggy Coit.

Passmore was originally a four-star recruit out of Combine Academy in Lincolnton, North Carolina, who committed to Kansas where he found himself on the cusp the Jayhawks' rotation in year one. Passmore averaged 0.7 points, 0.6 rebounds and 0.3 assists in five minutes per game across 23 appearances in 2024-25 and did not make a field goal between Nov. 30 and Feb. 18.

With K'Medehouto replacing Passmore, he becomes the seventh offseason addition alongside DJ Wagner, Bishop Boswell, Mike McNair, Maban Jabriel, Robert Jennings and Tomislav Buljan.
