With Big Ten Media Days one month away, Maryland football finalized details for year eight of head coach Mike Locksley at the podium.
Quarterback Malik Washington, offensive lineman Michael Hershey and linebacker Daniel Wingate are set to join Locksley at Big Ten Media Day with the team set to take the podium on the final day, Thursday, July 30 alongside Indiana, Michigan, Nebraska, Northwestern and Washington.
This marks the second consecutive year that Wingate will be in attendance with the NFL Draft prospect looking to build on what could be viewed as a breakout season after ranking sixth in the conference with 102 total tackles. Wingate, a former three-star addition out of St. Vincent Pallotti (Md.), flashed as an impact piece as an underclassman in a room that was then led by current Chicago Bears linebacker Ruben Hyppolite, though the local product is in line to become the next linebacker out of Maryland to be drafted. Before then, the preseason fourth-team All-American selection anchors Maryland's defense with the captain part of the deepest front seven since he arrived in College Park.
Hershey was tabbed as the eighth-best draft-eligible center by Phil Steele earlier this offseason where the Pa. native lived up to expectations as the next starting center after rotating in alongside Josh Kaltenberger, now with the Los Angeles Chargers, as a true freshman. Hershey was part of a rotation that allowed just nine sacks in 2025, one season after the unit allowed 26.
Washington, meanwhile, enters his second season with a chance to take shine under new offensive coordinator Clint Trickett where the former four-star can become a weapon for the offense. He also enters year two with a chance to cement himself all over the record book after etching himself among multiple single season categories. Washington's 473 attempts rank third-most in program history while his 273 completions already ranks 18th most in program history. The 2,963 passing yards also ranked sixth in program history while he's one of just five Maryland quarterbacks to throw for 400 yards in a game.
