Maryland has another ACC flip in the fold after Pitt pledge Alex Fontenot has gone public with his decision.
Fontenot, a 6-foot-2, 196-pound receiver, officially visited Maryland the weekend of June 11, marking his second visit to College Park after first arriving for a spring practice when he picked up the offer. Assistants Zac Spavital, Latrell Scott and Derek Kief led the way with the versatile product, who finalized his commitment last week.
"I'd probably play anywhere honestly. I'd play Z but they moved me in and out of the slot a lot. I know I can come in early and I'd be a two-deep player right away. I also like that they throw the ball a lot. Coach [Clint] Trickett showed me a game stat, they ran 90 plays and threw the ball 60 times so I'm really excited about that," he added.
Fontenot notched 1,047 receiving yards and 17 touchdowns on 62 catches while being named an All-District selection as a junior. He is set to enroll in college in January.
Fontenot becomes the latest wide receiver in the class alongside Virginia three-star AJ Henderson, Alabama three-star Mason McClure and Texas three-star Davion Vanderbilt as the pledge is now the 17th in Maryland's 2027 class.
