Good Counsel (MD) four-star edge rusher Dylan Gooden has taken the next step in his recruitment.
Gooden announced a top four of Maryland, Penn State, Rutgers and Virginia Tech and will make his commitment on August 9.
The 6-foot-4 outside linebacker took just one official visit last month to Rutgers while outside linebacker coach James Thomas is running point in Gooden's recruitment. Gooden took in Maryland's season-opening win over West Virginia last fall as former assistant Ron Zook set the foundation for the Terps' pursuit. “He said he likes what I do. He wants guys from the area to come play for him. I know that Stefon Diggs that played here went there and they got some good players.”
Gooden was originally slated to make a fall decision before shifting up his timeline ahead of his senior season. After playing both defensive end and outside linebacker this fall, Gooden has garnered strong feedback through the 7-on-7 circuit as Good Counsel first attended Maryland's 7-on-7 over the first weekend in June before trekking to Penn State and West Virginia among others.
Gooden is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the sixth-best prospect in Maryland.
