Archbishop Spalding (MD) four-star forward Cam Whitmore took the next step in his recruitment on Thursday as the Terps remain in the mix for their top target.
Whitmore announced a top ten of Florida, Georgetown, Illinois, Louisville, Maryland, Miami, North Carolina, Notre Dame, Penn State, and Villanova. The 6-foot-6, 200-pound forward took an official visit to Maryland to kick off the month of June, giving head coach Mark Turgeon a chance to court the Terps’ top 2022 target. “Even though I’ve been there a couple of times, the campus is very beautiful. The guys are very cool, welcomed me with open arms and treated me like family,” Whitmore said last month.
But Villanova jumped into the mix as head coach Jay Wright maintained his push through the month, including Wright in attendance for the DMV Live at DeMatha. “They’ve only offered two people in the class, including me. I think it’s Mark Armstrong. Yeah, they treat you like family. Coach [Jay] Wright treats me like family and thinks it’d be a great fit for me to develop as a player.” New head coach Hubert Davis and the Tar Heels have made a renewed push for Whitmore, while the four-star prospect also took in unofficial visits to Villanova, Penn State, and Pitt.
Whitmore plans to announce his commitment in the fall.
Whitmore is rated a four-star prospect and a 97 overall by 247Sports, sitting as the nation’s 30th-best prospect and the top prospect in Maryland.
