New Maryland men’s basketball head coach Buzz Williams has kept close tabs on the 2025 high school class as he restocks the roster, keeping Maryland in the mix with reclass candidate and current four-star Sebastian Wilkins while also loosely being tied to Kelvin Odih, a former four-star West Virginia signee who reopened his recruitment after the Mountaineers’ coaching change. But Maryland has also been in the long list of schools in contact with Darius Adams, a top-25 prospect in the 2025 class, and they’ll now get a crack. Meanwhile, former Kentucky guard Travis Perry is expected in College Park for a visit as the transfer portal swirls into the end of April.
Perry, a former top-100 recruit in the 2024 class, holds the Kentucky high school record for scoring, field goals made, 3PTS made and steals before being named state Sports Figure of the Year. In his freshman season with the Wildcats, Perry averaged just under 10 minutes and 2.7 points per game. Ole Miss, Arkansas, Georgia, LSU, Tennessee and South Carolina are among the long list of schools hosting him. Perry is expected to arrive on Sunday with Maryland among the schools in the mix.
Adams, a 6-foot-4 guard out of La Lumiere School and originally from Manasquan, NJ, is expected to unofficially visit Maryland on Saturday in addition to an unofficial to Georgetown on Friday. Dushawn London first reported the news.
Michigan State, Tennessee, North Carolina, Indiana and Alabama are among the other schools involved in his recruitment after Adams, who initially committed to UConn back on Sept. 30, backed off his pledge last weekend and was released from his letter of intent. Both Michigan State and Tennessee were among the top contenders for Adams before committing to the Huskies in the fall.
With a trip to College Park set, Buzz Williams now has a chance to position the program to sign its second McDonald’s All-American selection in as many seasons, though Williams is also still in search of his first high school commit since taking over as head coach at Maryland. Four-star guard Chris Jeffrey, who was previously signed to Maryland, flipped his pledge to Villanova following the coaching change as Adams serves as a potential upgrade in the backcourt. Maryland also has transfer portal commits from David Coit (Kansas), Myles Rice (Indiana), Isaiah Watts (Washington State) and Andre Mills (Texas A&M) with eight scholarships currently filled.
"Darius is a high-level guard who impacts the game in a variety of ways," La Lumiere coach Pat Holmes told ESPN's Paul Biancardi in the fall. "A true three-level scorer, Darius has the ability to score off the bounce and off the catch. His scoring prowess and shot creation does a great job of setting up his opportunities to facilitate for teammates. Defensively, Darius will compete with the best of them. He has an edge and toughness to his game that translates to every level of basketball, and I think it's why teammates love playing with him."
