Just two weeks after announcing his commitment to Maryland, Calera (AL) three-star receiver Kobe Prentice has announced he's backed off his verbal.

“As I walk this journey in the recruiting process and journey in life. I’ve been doing a lot of praying and thinking, and have been having a lot of long conversations with my mom at night. With that being said, I would like to decommit from the University of Maryland. God bless,” Prentice wrote on Twitter.

The shakeup in his recruitment came when Alabama extended Prentice an offer on July 1, just one day after he announced his pledge to Maryland. After camping for the Crimson Tide in June, Prentice is expected to visit Alabama during the final week of July in an opportunity to reconnect with the coaching staff.

“I didn’t know it was coming but I was really excited. It was real shocking, came super fast,” Prentice told Inside the Black and Gold. “It kind of felt good.” Alabama receiver coach Holmon Wiggins made it clear why Prentice was on the Crimson Tide’s radar. “They just told me they don’t have a receiver on the roster that has my speed so they see me like a young Jaylen Waddle.”

Maryland uncovered and offered Prentice during the Florida State mega camp back in early June, where the 5-foot-10, 171-pound slot receiver proceeded to add Power Five offers from Washington State and Mississippi State among others.

With the news, Maryland now holds 11 verbals in the 2022 class and a pair of receiver commitments in Amari Clark and Perry Fisher.
