Saturday marked the second trip to Maryland as a recruit for 2023 Bishop Ireton quarterback Jamie Kaiser, but the staff has put in steady work to build a strong relationship leading up to the visit. But as Kaiser basked in the Terps’ 62-0 win, he got a chance to see the full gameday atmosphere in College Park before watching the offense flourish.
“It was really nice, especially at night time. The atmosphere was crazy, the student section was real live and it ended up being a blowout and it was fun to watch them all,” Kaiser told Inside the Black and Gold. He also got a chance to connect with the coaching staff before and after the game. “I was able to talk to them because I had a game that day, so they texted me about my game then we texted about the game they had. We have a pretty good relationship, me, coach [Mike] Locksley, coach [Dan] Enos. They reach out every couple days, at least twice a week. I think they like my size at the position and the athleticism and other sport background, so I think they think it’ll fit well in their system.”
While Kaiser is drawing offers on the football side, he’s also a standout basketball prospect as schools continue to extend offers. Towson and Fairfield are the latest schools to offer on the hoops side, joining NJIT, Ohio, Loyola Maryland, George Washington and Howard among others. “I have a lot of offers but the ones I have a really good relationship with are George Washington, Ohio, St. Joe’s and George Mason.”
Whether he plays both sports at the next level isn’t something he’s considered too in-depth so far. “I don’t know right now, I feel like it’ll all depend on how my football and basketball season ends up this year and then I’ll end up making my decision in the spring,” he added. While the Terps’ hoop staff have not shown interest to-date, Kaiser has Maryland atop his leaderboard on the football side.
“For football, it’s at the top. No one has shown more love and I appreciate that from the whole coaching staff. They haven’t pressed that upon me yet but I know that’ll come in the near future with my decision.” Kaiser explains what stuck out about the offensive style in Saturday’s win. “How they get the ball out quick and let them do a lot of the work. I really like how they have overall team speed and athletes, it makes the quarterback’s job pretty easy.”
Kaiser’s father also briefly attended the University of Maryland while his uncle, Eric Hicks, suited up for the Terps in the 1990s before spending 11 years in the NFL. Kaiser doesn’t have a return visit finalized to Maryland but does hold a game invite for a Notre Dame game later this fall, but he’s also focused on his on-field results in the midst of his junior season.
Kaiser transferred from Lake Braddock to Bishop Ireton this summer and with the Cardinals currently 0-3, the 6-foot-6 athlete isn’t focused on individual accolades.
“Just make my team better. I want to finish above .500, I don’t think the school has done that in almost a decade.”
Kaiser is currently unrated by 247Sports.
