Maryland has three high school signees and another verbal commit in the 2023 class as the coaching staff has been able to lay the groundwork for the 2024 class. One target they've been able to see a handful of times already this season is 2024 Paul VI (VA) three-star forward Garrett Sundra, who's been consistently hearing from the staff since picking up an offer in October. The 6-foot-10 forward is coming off a 77-47 win over Good Counsel on Friday night as Paul VI moved to 24-1 on the season. "I've been trying to do some new things the past few weeks of the season. Trying to get into the gym a little bit more, trying to push through a little bit of a shooting slump lately. Just trying to get ready for playoffs and get another 'chip," Sundra added. Sundra and the Panthers will be back in action when they travel to Bishop O'Connell (VA) on Tuesday night, but the three-star prospect has been able to pay attention to recruiting even with a busy schedule. That includes Maryland, who has hosted him three times this season with the most recent trip for last month's win over Ohio State. "I've got a chance to see three games this season. It was fun, got a chance to go back after the Ohio State game to go back into the locker room. Talked with some of the guys, some of the coaches, caught up with them which is good. I've got a chance to see them a lot." https://twitter.com/PointGuardEyes/status/1585819688483061760 Assistant Tony Skinn paved the way to land Paul VI (VA) four-star guard Deshawn Harris-Smith in the 2023 class and he's back at it again staying in touch with Sundra months into his recruitment. "Coach Willard reaches out once every other week or so but if it's not him, I'm talking to coach Skinn. Me and him have gotten a chance to know each other really well." While Sundra enjoys healthy relationships in College Park, Maryland views the Virginia native "more as a forward than a five" but couldn't help but not another WCAC product leading the Terrapins. "They've been playing really well. Jahmir Young, he's having a great season. They took a big win to Penn State and played well. They look really good." Still, Sundra's shooting touch and ability to run the floor with ease makes him a fit at the four at the next level Sundra took an official visit to Butler last fall and told IBG he doesn't have any schools penciled in for upcoming visits. Official visits are on the table and while he remains wide open in his recruitment, Virginia Tech is a school in consistent contact since offering last fall. Sundra is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3. He's rated the ninth-best prospect in Virginia and the 131st-best prospect in the nation.
