Maryland Emerges As A Contender for Committed Prospect

St. Frances defensive lineman Sam Greene made it to campus later than he hoped on Saturday, but he arrived in College Park alongside 2024 four-star quarterback Mike Van Buren, three-star linebacker Simeon Coleman, and 2025 cornerback Kevyn Humes.

For Greene, a 6-foot-2 defensive lineman, it still marked his first time on campus with an offer in-hand and since he arrived late, he stayed late on campus too.

“I went into the locker room, I had a meeting with coach Locks, coach Lance [Thompson],” Greene told Inside the Black and Gold. The 45-minute meeting gave both sides an opportunity to get on the same page and gauge interest given Greene’s commitment to USC, but the local defensive lineman will give the Terps a chance as they’ve emerged as a threat.

“They know I’m committed but they have an eye on me. it was kind of like both sides of things because they asked me what I think about Maryland. Coach Locks asked what I thought of the progression of the team. He was asking where Maryland stands and I said it’s top two.”

What vaults the Terps into Greene’s top group?

“Just the guys from the locker room.”

Though he was inactive, Greene got a chance to connect with star freshman linebacker Jaishawn Barham while talking with defensive tackle Tommy Akingbesote as the two built a friendship after training together for years. Greene will now look at setting up a return trip to College Park.

“We talked about the official and they have two more home games so either the Ohio State game or Rutgers.”

Greene is also listening to Texas A&M and has a November official visit set to return to USC.

Greene is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the eighth-best prospect in Maryland.
