Local lineman includes Maryland in top eight

With visits now in full swing, Flowers (MD) three-star offensive tackle Mike Williams took the next step in his recruitment on Saturday.

Williams announced a top eight with Maryland, Miami, Michigan State, South Carolina, Tennessee, USC, Virginia Tech and West Virginia still in the mix. The 6-foot-7 tackle has long been viewed as one of the top lineman in the region dating back to his days at Rock Creek (MD). After transferring to St. Frances last spring, Williams went back to his district school where he anchored the Flowers’ offensive line en route to a state championship runner-up appearance.

Williams made it to campus twice in March after the dead period ended as the staff has prioritized the P.G. County school with several Power Five targets headlining the 2023 roster. Maryland jumped into the mix for Williams following his freshman season and head coach Mike Locksley reiterated the lengthy relationship that the two share during his first visit.

“I see coach Locksley, outside of being the head coach, just another person who wants to win in life. He offered me a long time ago, the summer after my freshman year, so I know him differently and for a little longer.”

Williams also added that he will officially visit Maryland the weekend of June 26 with the buzz heading into the spring centered around Miami and South Carolina. Williams is coming off an unofficial visit to Tennessee on Saturday.

Maryland, meanwhile, has a pair of commitments in its 2024 class with three-star running back Terek McCant and three-star linebacker Justin Okoronkwo already in the fold.

Williams is rated a three-star prospect and an 84 overall by On3, sitting as the 35th-best prospect in Maryland.
