Four-star RB Dilin Jones updates recruitment, talks official visits

Good Counsel (MD) four-star Dilin Jones made a name for himself last fall as an explosive running back after the 5-foot-11 flashed what he can do in space in both the pass and run game.

Fast forward to the spring and the 187-pound running back is looking to build on a successful campaign as one of the key weapons on a loaded Falcons’ offense, while bringing the next wave along.

“I want to teach kids coming up, help them develop,” Jones said.

Jones’ combo of speed and vision has also made the 187-pound running back among the most coveted prospects in the country at his position. With offers from Auburn, Boston College, Florida, Michigan, Michigan State and Notre Dame among others, Jones has kept his recruitment close to the vest but knows which schools he plans to officially visit next month.

“I think I’m going to take one to Florida State, Wisconsin and Maryland,” Jones told IBG. “I’ll be planning something soon.”

Maryland has made Good Counsel a big priority this recruiting cycle given their long line of Power Five talent among their senior class and after landing a pair of four-stars last cycle, outside linebacker coach James Thomas has paved the way once again. “Everything’s been good. I talk to [James Thomas] every day. Everything is good with him. They do a good job of reaching out to me.” A big component for Jones is getting acclimated to his new potential position coach, Latrell Scott, as the two were able to sit down during his unofficial visit last month.

“I had a meeting with him a couple of weeks ago, I came up to campus. I sat with the other running backs too so that was good.”

Jones added he is also looking to visit Virginia Tech with new assistant Elijah Brooks picking up the recruiting efforts that started during his time in College Park. “We’ve been talking since he made the move,” Jones added.

Jones’ eventual visits to both Wisconsin and Florida State will mark his first to both schools as he looks to get a better feel. “I just want to see how the campus is, how the coaches are, how the environment is.”

Dilin Jones added he will look to make his commitment prior to his senior season.

Jones was named WCAC Player of the Year and drew first-team All-WCAC honors as a junior.

Dilin Jones is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall, sitting as the fifth-best prospect in Maryland and the nation’s 249th-best prospect.
