Local guard sets pair of official visits, including Maryland

St. John’s (DC) three-star guard Daquan Davis is no stranger to Maryland and now, he’s set to return to campus for an extended visit.

Daquan Davis will officially visit Maryland next weekend, he confirmed with IBG.

Davis is also set to officially visit Mississippi State beginning June 2 and is looking to officially visit Notre Dame, though that visit has not yet been set.

Davis is also coming off an official visit to Providence this past weekend where first-year head coach Kim English has picked up renewed efforts. Mississippi State has long been a visit destination for Davis, while new Irish head coach Micah Shrewsberry has resumed recruiting efforts that began while at Penn State.

But with assistant David Cox leading the way with the 6-foot-1 combo guard, whose game-winning shot lifted the Cadets over PVI in the WCAC championship, Maryland has always remained in the mix with him sitting as ‘warm’ on the big board through the spring.

“I liked it a lot. I like how coach lets them play. Coach [David] Cox texted me [Thursday], he was like ‘see how we’re using Jahmir [Young]?’ it’s a good style of play. I like how he’s letting them just play their game,” Davis told IBG after visiting for the Nebraska game. “That’s what I’m looking for, honestly.”

After leading St. John’s to a 30-3 while averaging 16.2 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals on 42.3% shooting, Davis was named MaxPreps DC Player of the Year.

Davis is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the fourth-best prospect in DC.
