Four-star edge talks latest visit to Maryland

Riverdale Baptist (MD) four-star Cortez Harris was on campus for Tuesday’s practice as the 6-foot-2, 210-pound edge got a chance to sit in position meetings then practice where he got a chance to see plenty of familiar faces.

“I talked to coach [James Thomas], coach Aazaar [Abdul-Rahim], seeing some of my old teammates up there,” Harris told IBG. “Coach JT is always good people. He’s very knowledgeable and relatable. I got to talk with coach [Kevin] Sumlin too. It’s a good fit up there, just family vibes.”

Harris is set to return to Maryland for his official visit the weekend of June 14, one of two visits now set. “I’m going to be at Penn State the weekend of June 21 too,” Harris added.

Before official visits, he’ll hit the road for more unofficial visits starting with a visit to Virginia Tech for this weekend’s spring game. The Hokies have long been involved in his recruitment with former Maryland and current Virginia Tech assistant Elijah Brooks involved in his recruitment, but Harris has watched more blue bloods join the fray heading into May.

“Georgia, Michigan, Florida, they’ve been talking to me about setting up a visit,” he added.

While Tennessee is also on his shortlist for official visit destinations, Harris will look to narrow his focus with a top five this month as he finalizes his June visit plans. After that, the four-star will bunker down into decision mode.

“I wouldn’t say there’s going to be factors. It’s going to be a family decision for me, how I feel on the visits.”

Cortez Harris is rated a four-star prospect and a 90 overall by On3, sitting as the third-best prospect in Maryland.
