Four-star edge rusher has two schools in the mix for fifth visit

Good Counsel (MD) four-star edge rusher Darien Mayo has a busy June ahead of him with four official visits already scheduled`.

The 6-foot-6, 255-pound edge rusher is set to officially visit Clemson the first weekend of June, then Ohio State the weekend of June 9, then USC the weekend of June 16 followed by Michigan to close out the month. After Mayo unofficially visited each of his top schools in the spring, the local four-star knows how he’ll separate his contenders.

“Just where can I see myself playing, how big of an impact I can make if I can go there,” Mayo told IBG.

Mayo has two schools battling for fifth in his recruitment. “South Carolina and Maryland are my other two schools. If something happens or if I find time, I’ll take an official visit to check them out.”

Mayo was able to get to College Park twice this spring as both outside linebacker coach James Thomas and defensive coordinator Brian Williams tag team this recruitment. “I got there twice. I’ve been up there a bunch, too.” The pitch from the home team remains simple: “Just stay home. Obviously everything I can get other places, I can get at Maryland too.”

Mayo is rated a four-star prospect and a 93 overall by On3, sitting as the second-best player in Maryland.
