Conference Opponents for Maryland Men’s, Women’s Basketball Released for 2022-23 Season

Several of Maryland men’s basketball non-conference games have been reportedly set with matchups against UCLA and Tennessee already announced, but the Big Ten released the 2022-23 conference opponents on Thursday afternoon.

Maryland will host and travel to Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue and Wisconsin this upcoming season. Maryland will host Illinois, Indiana and Northwestern, while the Terps will travel to Iowa, Michigan State and Rutgers.

13 of Maryland’s 20 opponents made the 2022 NCAA Tournament to set up a strong schedule heading into the first season under head coach Kevin Willard. Meanwhile, Maryland has reportedly finalized several non-conference matchups for the 2022-23 season including a post-Thanksgiving matchup against Coppin State and head coach Juan Dixon. Maryland has already kicked off summer practices and announced recent signings of guard Jahari Long, who follows Willard from Seton Hall to Maryland, along with former St. Francis (BKN) forward Patrick Emilien who will enroll later this month.

Meanwhile, Maryland women’s basketball announced home games against both UConn and South Carolina, the 2022 defending national champions, and will face four teams who made the 2022 NCAA Tournament.

Head coach Brenda Frese and the Terps will host and travel to Iowa, Michigan State, Nebraska, Ohio State and Rutgers. The Terps will host Illinois, Michigan, Minnesota and Penn State while they will travel to Indiana, Northwestern, Purdue and Wisconsin.

Maryland returns All-Big Ten honoree and 2021 Big Ten tournament MVP, Diamond Miller, as well as Big Ten Sixth Player of the Year Shyanne Sellers. Two-time National Coach of the Year Brenda Frese will bring in eight new players next season, including AP Honorable Mention All-American honoree Abby Meyers (Princeton), All-SEC transfer Lavender Briggs (Florida), All-AAC transfer Elisa Pinzan (USF) and All-CAA transfer Allie Kubek (Towson). Earlier this spring, Frese also signed two top-55 incoming freshmen in Gia Cooke and Brianna McDaniel. Incoming freshman Ava Sciolla and Mila Reynolds signed with Maryland in November, giving the Terrapins a top 10 recruiting class for the 15th time under Frese. Game dates, times and television information will be announced at a later date. Season tickets for the 2022-23 season are now on sale at umterps.com.
