CB Tarheeb Still drafted by Los Angeles Chargers

Tarheeb Still becomes the first day three selection after the Los Angeles Chargers selected him with the 137th overall pick in the fifth round, becoming the first defensive back out of Maryland to be drafted this year, the third cornerback over the last three years and fourth defensive back selection since 2020.

Still, a former three-star signee out of Timber Creek Regional (NJ) in the 2020 class, became an integral piece in Maryland’s turnaround under Mike Locksley after stepping into a four-year starting role, making an impact on both defense and special teams.

He started for all four years with the Terps, was an All-Big Ten honorable mention in 2020, and was named to the second team in 2023. In 2020, he led the nation in pass breakups per game with 2. In 2023, Still turned the pass breakups into interceptions, tying for sixth in the nation with 5, and was one of three FBS players to have multiple games with at least 2 picks. He had one third of Maryland’s interceptions in 2023 after the team finished with 15, the second-most in the Big Ten behind Michigan.

Still’s decision to stay for his senior year was a big boost to Maryland’s defense, especially after the secondary lost corners Deonte Banks and Jakorian Bennett to the NFL Draft, as well as Isaiah Hazel to the transfer portal. Still teamed with safeties Dante Trader, Beau Brade, and cornerback transfer Ja’Quan Sheppard as Maryland allowed opponents to complete 57.8% of their passes, fifth-best in the Big Ten.
