’24 Maryland signee Judah Jenkins talks coaching change, offseason transition

After initially committing to Indiana back in mid-June, Good Counsel (MD) cornerback Judah Jenkins parted ways with the Hoosiers following Tom Allen’s dismissal. Despite not taking an official visit to College Park, Maryland’s interest picked up with assistant James Thomas leading efforts while Good Counsel head coach Andy Stefanelli was heavily involved down the stretch.

In the end, Maryland’s offer materialized in the 11th hour prior to the December signing period and the 5-foot-11, 175-pound cornerback wasted no time on the chance to stay close to home, eager to make his pledge official on the morning of Dec. 20.

Since then, Maryland has had a coaching change at the position with Aazaar Abdul-Rahim replacing Henry Baker as cornerbacks coach but Jenkins made his way to campus the weekend of Jan. 19 to reconnect with his new position coach, someone he’s already plenty familiar with.

“I’ve known coach Aazaar from previous times. He recruited me my sophomore year and he was my second offer,” Jenkins told IBG. “I love coach Aazaar, man. The competitiveness he brings, his background, knowing he’s from this area and he’s easy to relate to. I just love coach Aazaar. I really like the new change. I’m all for it. It felt real comfortable. It just felt real good being up there.”

His latest visit to campus gave the three-star signee a chance to build their relationship further where they spent time together during the Michigan State basketball game, but ahead of enrolling in June, Jenkins has started to acclimate himself to the pace and style at his new school. “They gave me the playbook recently just to familiarize myself and catch up, give me different workouts but I’m already training with Myron Flowers so he’s already upped the pace,” Jenkins added. “I’m working out on my own and with different trainers around the area close to home. Coach [Josh Pleasant], always.”

Jenkins ended his high school career as a WCAC champ one year along with being named a second-team All-MET. As a junior, Jenkins recorded 20 tackles, a pair of tackles for loss and a fumble recovery. With his high school career now complete, Jenkins will look to join the rest of the 2024 local signees to take in spring practice while he also contemplates spring track.

Judah Jenkins is rated a three-star prospect and an 85 overall by On3, sitting as the 46th-best player in Maryland and 207th-best cornerback in the country.
