Virginia duo schedule official visits to Maryland

Maryland is days away from kicking off official visit season with six commits already in the 2025 cycle. With five-star Faheem Delane an early headliner for next weekend’s official visit crew, two more targets announced plans to officially visit Maryland with one headed to campus next weekend.

Highland Springs (VA) linebacker Brennan Johnson is set to officially visit Maryland beginning next Friday, May 31, as running backs coach Latrell Scott has led the way with the 5-foot-11, 185-pound athlete. Johnson will get a chance to reconnect with former high school teammate Khristian Martin, who arrives on campus on Friday, during his official visit as Scott looks to keep the pipeline alive in the 2025 cycle. Johnson made his way to campus last fall for the Penn State game before picking up an offer in January, returning to campus for his first visit with an offer in-hand during spring ball. Maryland currently has one inside linebacker committed this cycle in Maury (VA) CJ Smith, who will officially visit the weekend of June 14. Brennan Johnson is also the younger brother of Virginia Tech DB Brayon Johnson with the Hokies a major factor in his recruitment.

Maryland will watch another top target head to campus later in the month as Turner Ashby (VA) four-star Micah Matthews heads to College Park during the final available weekend in June with an official visit set for the weekend of June 21. A one-time South Carolina baseball commit, Matthews is also a two-sport athlete eyeing a baseball track at the next level as he approaches his senior year ranked the 56th-best prospect in the 2025 class, according to Baseball America. Maryland already has one two-sport star in the fold in DeMatha (MD) Bud Coombs while cross-country target, San Ramon Valley (CA) four-star Marco Jones, is in the mix for a June visit.

Like Brennan Johnson, Matthews also made his way to College Park for the Penn State game last fall before picking up the offer in late January. The four-star athlete has already completed an official visit to Virginia and will head to North Carolina, Utah and Virginia Tech for official visits.

As a junior, Matthews posted 1,476 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns on 86 catches.

Johnson is not yet rated by On3, while Micah Matthews is rated a four-star and a 90 overall by On3.
