Maryland football adds Towson, Delaware to future schedules

Maryland football is officially 100 days away from kicking off the 2024 season, but the program announced a pair of opponents to the future schedules on Thursday.

Maryland is scheduled to host both Towson and Delaware in 2028, while Towson will return to College Park again in 2030. The 2028 home game against Towson is scheduled for Sept. 2 with Delaware making the trip to SECU Stadium on Sept. 9. The 2030 matchup against Towson is scheduled for Sept. 14, 2030.

Following the latest news, Maryland’s nonconference schedule is now complete through the 2028 season after previously announcing a four-year series against regional rival Virginia Tech.

Maryland has won the last four meetings against Delaware, though the two teams haven’t played since the narrow win in 2008 to open the season. Former star running back Da’rel Scott led Maryland with 197 yards on 26 carries while Davin Meggett and Darrius Heyward-Bey punched in the two rushing touchdowns in the win.

Meanwhile, Maryland hosted Towson to open the 2023 season as the Terps cruised to a 38-6 win to win the third all-time matchup between the two teams. Maryland previously beat Towson in both 2011 and 2017 as head coach Mike Locksley is set to compete against his alma mater yet again in 2025.

“I look back at my time there at Towson and very thankful for that opportunity of. A young kid from Southwest section of DC, ended up going to school up the road and it changed my life. The first person in my family to go to college and it was mostly because of the game of football and Towson, I’ll be forever indebted to what Towson has done for me and my family and in my life,” Locksley said last fall.
