Two DMV targets, ’25 verbal set official visits to Maryland

Hayfield (VA) three-star running back Jeff Overton included Maryland in his top ten earlier this offseason as running backs coach Latrell Scott has led the way with the 5-foot-8, 165-pound running back. Overton is no stranger to College Park, having visited for multiple games in 2022 then returning for another in 2023, but he’ll be back on campus for an official visit the weekend of June 14.

Overton, who included Duke, Wake Forest, Ohio State, Pitt, West Virginia and Syracuse in his top group, has official visits planned to Ohio State beginning May 31, Virginia beginning June 7, Maryland beginning June 14 and Virginia Tech beginning June 21. Maryland has been working to get the Virginia speedster back on campus before then with spring ball set to open at the end of the month.

“Coach Scott actually just called me [Tuesday]. Things have been going well. We talk a lot, honestly. He just says that I need to come up there more,” Overton said. “He’s thrown a couple of dates but he’s more just telling us just to come up, spend time with us, check us out. I just like it up there, it’s close to home and it feels like it’s home when it’s up there.”

Overton won’t be the only visitor that weekend as DeMatha (MD) three-star linebacker Noah Chambers has set his official visit to Maryland beginning June 14. New co-defensive coordinator Aazaar Abdul-Rahim has led the way thus far with the 6-foot-2 linebacker heading into the spring as Indiana, Syracuse and Temple are among the schools who have offered so far. Virginia Tech has made themselves a factor in his recruitment after Chambers made his way to Blacksburg in January, and the Hokies have plans for a return with an official visit set for the weekend of June 21.

Meanwhile, defensive line verbal Braheem Battles has his official visit locked in for the same weekend as Chambers and Overton as the Pennsylvania native will head back to campus the weekend of June 14. Battles became the third and latest pledge in the 2025 class after making his verbal public shortly after head coach Mike Locksley confirmed the commitment of the 6-foot-32 316-pound interior defensive lineman.

“Just relationships,” Battles told IBG about why Maryland was the pick. “The relationship with the staff was a huge part of my recruiting process and they were recruiting me early in my football career so I was already fond and big on the staff. I just felt like it was the best fit.”
