Top-50 prospect impressed by Maryland’s defense, talks recent visit

2025 four-star Trent Wilson, rated the top prospect in Maryland by On3, is among several players to make the midseason departure from St. Frances as the 6-foot-3, 275-pound lineman has since settled in at Wise (MD).

The local transfer sent shockwaves through the public school ranks as Wilson becomes a key piece to the Pumas’ quest to recapture the 4A state title this fall. “Getting used to the environment, all my teammates been treating me real well,” Wilson told IBG.

The transfer hasn’t altered the trajectory of his recruitment as the local defensive lineman remains one of the most coveted prospects in the area. Fielding a 20-plus offer list, Maryland is among the early schools prioritizing Wilson while Penn State hosted him twice this fall, most recently this weekend for the White Out win over the weekend as head coach James Franklin chips in on early efforts. Before the four-star target made his way north, Wilson took a short trip to College Park to check out the Saturday night win against Charlotte back in week two.

“It’s a lot of love when I come on campus, coaches make sure I’m good, making it feel like home for me,” Wilson told IBG. “I’ve been talking with [coordinator of on-campus recruiting] Hannah [Hansley] a lot. [Outside linebacker coach] James Thomas is the main assistant I talk with.”

Wilson has been a familiar face in College Park dating back to his time at St. John’s (DC), where he began his high school career. The top-50 prospect also made his way to Maryland back in the spring, while he and head coach Mike Locksley got a chance to connect one-on-one during his most recent visit.

“We just talked about how he’s going to turn around Maryland and how I’m a big prospect for them,” Wilson said following the visit. With relationships well-established in College Park, the last month has given the priority 2025 target a chance to watch the defense take a step forward in Brian Williams’s second season as defensive coordinator.

“The secondary has been doing really good,” Wilson added. “Number 19, he had picks in back-to-back games so he’s been balling. Yeah, the defense has looked real good this year.”

Wilson is rated a four-star prospect and a 93 overall by On3, sitting as the 42^nd-best prospect in the country.
