Terps in the NFL: Dontay Demus signed to Ravens’ practice squad, Diggs & Deonte Banks shine

While several former Terps took the field on Sunday and Monday, the biggest news came on Tuesday when Baltimore announced the signing of Dontay Demus to the practice squad, one of two receivers the Ravens signed on Tuesday. Demus got a chance to showcase himself in Baltimore through preseason before being waived. With Tylan Wallace on IR, Demus will look to crack the 53-man roster as the Ravens prepare for their second divisional matchup of the season.

Giants cornerback Deonte Banks continued his strong rookie season in the team’s loss to the 49ers. He gave up three catches on five targets for 22 yards and nearly had his first career interception before the ball was knocked down by Deebo Samuel.

Safety Nick Cross saw his Indianapolis Colts get an overtime win against the Baltimore Ravens as he recorded one tackle, while running back Jake Funk didn’t see any carries.

DJ Moore is on his way to the worst season of his career after catching three catches for 41 yards and a touchdown in the Bears’ 41-10 loss to the Chiefs. Through three games, he has 11 catches for 170 yards and one score as the Bears’ lackluster offense has been the talk of the early season. Teammate Yannick Ngakoue finished with two tackles and quarterback hits each.

Steelers running back Anthony McFarland went on the IR for a knee injury before the Monday night game against Cleveland last week, so he’ll be for at least four weeks. Spencer Anderson was active but didn’t play Sunday night as the Steelers beat the Raiders 23-18. For the Raiders, cornerback Jakorian Bennett had 2 tackles and a pass defended with George Pickens frequently lined up opposite of him.

Bills’ wide receiver Stefon Diggs had his second 100-yard game of the season in their 37-3 beatdown over the Washington Commanders.

In a divisional match-up between the Patriots and Jets, New England kicker Chad Ryland made only two of four field goal attempts in a 15-10 Patriot victory. He made from 48 and 51 yards but missed from 48 and 57. Head coach Bill Belichick did back his kicker after the game. “It was a tough day to kick. Bunch of long ones. The weather wasn’t great. I thought he hit the ball pretty well,” Belichick said after the game. Jets defensive lineman Quinton Jefferson finished with two tackles in the loss.

Darnell Savage helped the Packers come back against the Saints, tying for a team-high seven tackles in the 18-17 win.

In a game where two former Maryland offensive linemen went up against each other, Tennessee’s Jaelyn Duncan was inactive, while Cleveland’s Michael Dunn only played 2 snaps in the Browns’ 27-3 win. Tight end Chigoziem Okonkwo only had seven yards on three catches as the Titans look to fix their offensive issues.

Rakim Jarrett was active but didn’t record a catch in the Bucs 25-11 Monday night loss to the Eagles. Josh Woods was inactive in the Cardinals’ 28-16 win over Dallas, while Chargers cornerback JC Jackson has had a rough start to the 2023 season. After being called out for poor play by fans, Jackson was a healthy inactive on the team’s 28-24 win over the Vikings with an arrest warrant since issued.
