Speedy WR Justin Devaughn has plans to visit three schools, including Maryland

Speedy 2025 Mervo (MD) wide receiver Justin Devaughn has built an accomplished track and field resume over the last three years as the 5-foot-10, 165-pound athlete gears up for another season of outdoor track where he’s set to compete in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles. Devaughn’s quickness is evident after posting a 6.83-second time in the 55-meter back in the winter, months after posting a 38.14-second in the 300-meter hurdle. Still, Devaughn has kept football part of his workout routine through the spring with a new quarterback under center as the two look to build their rapport.

“I’m with the team in the weight rooms on Tuesdays and Thursdays then we’re hitting the field because we got a new quarterback, so I’ve been seeing how he throws the ball,” he told IBG.

Track season has made it tougher to map out his full visit schedule for the rest of spring into summer, but three schools have dates set to get the Baltimore native on campus.

First up is Miami (FL) on March 30 where the ‘Canes have been showing consistent interest through the spring. “The Marshall coach that offered me, he ended up taking a job at Miami so I’m going to go check them out but they’ve been pretty consistent with me.”

Next up is Maryland where Devaughn is set to check out College Park for a spring practice on April 4. Assistant Lance Thompson has picked up the pursuit since Gunter Brewer departed, but that hasn’t deterred Devaughn’s outlook on the Terps.

“It’s still the same. I feel the same about them even though it isn’t the same coach recruiting me before [Gunter] Brewer left. It’s still the same connection, it’s nothing different. They’ve been good about keeping up with me over the last month. I talk with them at least two, three times per week I’d say.”

His lone official visit set for now is for Minnesota beginning June 7 where the Gophers have been a consistent player. “I’ve been talking with them for a while now and we were able to make that weekend work so I want to get up there and see what it’s like,” Devaughn added. Temple, Pitt, Marshall, Indiana, Syracuse and Nebraska have all jumped in the mix thus far as Devaughn eyeballs a summer commitment timeframe.

Justin Devaughn is rated a three-star prospect and an 89 overall by On3, sitting as the eleventh-best prospect in Maryland.
