With homecoming game here, students ready for Maryland football to secure an upset

Homecoming week has arrived at the University of Maryland as the Terp's football team will square off against the #2 ranked Indiana Hoosiers Saturday at 3:30 EST at home.

This is slated be their most grueling matchup this season, and in over a decade. The Terp's played against #2 Florida State Seminoles back in 2014, losing 31-10 on the road in Tallahasse. Most recently, the Terp's have not won against an AP top-five opponent since their 1955 season, where they beat the #1 ranked UCLA Bruins 7-0. Since then, they've been winless.

Maryland football is desperately looking for a bounce back win, after losing their last three games in rough finishes, this game would be the ideal way to get their season back on track.

"They're due for a big win," junior student Riley Greer said. "In my short-ish time so far here at UMD, they've lost big games over and over again. It's tiring for me and the fans I'm sure, but it's got to be annoying for the players and coaches since they haven't gotten over the hump."

This game is expected to be their hardest matchup, against a red hot Hoosier's team led by Fernando Mendoza, a heisman candidate, the defense and secondary will have their hands full all game.

"We got some dogs on defense that can rattle him [Mendoza]," senior student Elijah Evans said. "Sidney and Mathis got that instinct, as long as they don't fold like they have been so far in the fourth, it's going to be closer than some people may think. They play good ball in the majority of the games, just have to wake up or make a clutch gene as soon as possible."

There has no doubt been critics against Head Coach Mike Locksley, with some hot seat talk. Fans believe that if they win this game, the talks will be minimized.

"Yeah if Locks is able to pull this one off, it's going to quiet a lot of fans down," senior student Noah Hughes said. "Listen, if he's [Locksley] is able to do the unthinkable, season's back on track and just gives them a ton of juice heading into the rest of the season."

Quarterback Malik Washington will have all eyes on him this game, since this will be his biggest matchup of his young collegiate career up to this point. Fans aren't too stressed about his upcoming performance in this giant test that he will be taking head on.

"Malik is going to do what he does every game for the most part, make plays," freshman student Nicole Stevens said. "Whenever I go to the games, he always tries to win and make winning plays, even though they've come up short, but that's just life sometimes. As long as they can all contribute on offense and defense, I think they upset Indiana."
