Maryland is up to 15 commitments with seven of them on the offensive side of the ball. Maryland remains involved with a number of targets, including several who officially visited in June. With targets announcing commitment dates and plans, we break down where things stand heading into the rest of July. Maryland has been heavily involved with Highland Springs (VA) three-star QB Khristian Martin as they battle Virginia heading into a July decision. The Terps have juice between the offensive style and duo of Latrell Scott and Josh Gattis in his recruitment, while Martin is expected to make his decision prior to the start of his senior year. If Virginia wins out, Maryland could turn to Jones (FL) four-star QB Trever Jackson, who has plans set to visit Maryland on July 28. Maryland landed St. Frances (MD) four-star running back Dejuan Williams over the July 4 weekend as he gives the room an all-purpose back. The staff is also heavily involved with Good Counsel (MD) four-star RB Dilin Jones with Wisconsin, Florida State, Florida and Virginia Tech the other primary contenders early on. Don’t discount the Seminoles, especially after landing WR Elijah Moore, but the Terps are expected to receive an official visit, likely in December, with the relationships between the two sides still strong. Maryland has a pair of wide receiver commits in Jahmari Powell-Wonson and Josiah McLaurin, who also fits in as a hybrid back similar to Braden Wisloski a season ago, and are in a battle for a pair of Virginia receivers. As the Terps and Hokies remain in a battle, King George WR Chanz Wiggins is still trending toward the Hokies as their commits have done a stellar job recruiting him, while Maryland increasingly looks like the landing spot for Wiggins' teammate, three-star Mekhai White. White’s status remains much more fluid, but both are expected to make summer decisions with White’s commitment expected in August. Maryland made the top five, but South Carolina remains the heavy favorite for four-star Jonathan Paylor with a decision expected this month. Crest (NC) four-star Javarius Green originally had a fall timeline but will make a mid-July decision with the Terps on the outside-looking-in. After loading up last cycle, a more patient approach is expected with targets moving forward. Tight end hasn’t been an active position so far this spring, the staff is keeping tabs on Northern Illinois verbal Lane Wadle with a fall official visit expected. Hun School (NJ) Dominic DeLuca is another who picked up an offer after offensive coordinator Josh Gattis got a chance to see the 6-foot-5, 230-pound prospect. Maryland has been active in the trenches this cycle with five commitments along the offensive side of the ball and will look to pick up at least one more this month when Pallotti (MD) offensive tackle Ryan Howerton announces on the 15th. Maryland and Pitt are battling it out for the 6-foot-4 tackle target, who was a consistent top performer on the camp circuit this spring, and the relationships between Howerton and the Terps’ staff loom large as the staff works the close. Howerton sits as ‘warm’ on the big board but is in the group of prospects in the mix to be upgraded on the big board. Maryland remains in the top group for Ashbrook (NC) offensive tackle Trent Mitchell and NC State remains the team to beat with a decision expected on Wednesday, but I wouldn't rule Maryland out as they stay on him regardless of his verbal commitment. Meanwhile, IMG Academy (FL) four-star lineman Jordan Seaton made his way to campus in late June as Maryland is still in the mix with Alabama and Florida among the blue-chip programs in the mix. Cy Falls (TX) offensive lineman Samir Camacho and in-state lineman Trevor Szymanski are likely to head elsewhere with five spots filled in the Terps’ class, while another in-state target to monitor down the line is St. Mary’s tackle Davon Watkins, who picked up an offer following camp. Maryland is also keeping tabs on Cardinal Gibbons (FL) tackle Zack Boehly and University Christian (FL) Benndy Ambroise, who both picked up offers during the spring evaluation period. Maryland has five commitments already at the position and could continue to load up at the position through the cycle.
