Virginia Athlete Eyeing Visit for Ohio State Game

The junior season for Brooke Point (VA) three-star athlete Daniel Coles hasn’t gone as expected after being sidelined for four games due to injury, then returning to action and lining up at quarterback. But the 6-foot, 200-pound athlete could line up at receiver this weekend and make an appearance back at safety, giving him a chance to flash his potential once more.

“At first it was kind of slow, but now it’s getting more consistent with me able to play this year. My recruitment kind of slowed down when I got hurt, but it’s back up now,” he told Inside the Black and Gold.” Coles has been able to largely draw a regional offer list and has been able to visit a pair of local schools so far this fall. “I’ve been to Tech, I’ve been to UVA, Penn State. I’m trying to make it to West Virginia I think on the 12th, I’m trying to make it to Pitt and Florida State and I’m trying to make a visit to Maryland work. Trying my best, though.”

Inside linebacker coach Lance Thompson got Coles on campus twice back in the spring and summer and the two have talked about a return visit for the Ohio State game. “Trying to see what I have planned but trying to go. We talk a lot. We get on the phone like two, three times a week and then we send each other messages.” Coles has checked in on the Terps’ progress so far this season, but he’s also heard the positive feedback from his two friends including 2025 Freedom (VA) running back Jeff Overton. “Two of my friends just got offered from Maryland. I’ve watched the highlights from games and they’ve said they love it up there.”

Virginia Tech is a factor in Coles’ recruitment and despite a rocky start in Blacksburg, Coles has come away impressed with the Hokies after visiting for the win over Boston College this fall. “Their record isn’t that good but they have a new coaching staff coming in, new recruits, new players. Every school, I don’t expect to come out and go undefeated. Teams lose, it happens. They have bad years but it’s all about the offseason work that they’ve shown and Tech has worked really hard. I know coach Pry is trying his best and he shows a lot of love to me as well.”

Coles is rated a three-star prospect and an 87 overall by On3, sitting as the 15th-best prospect in Virginia.Related Links Pair of veterans make cut for postseason awards
