Two local targets set official visits to Maryland

Matoaca (VA) wide receiver Dillon Newton-Short has made himself a familiar face in College Park over the last two years, and he's planning on at least two more trips to College Park starting with later this month. "I'll be up there for an unofficial on the 28th then I'll be back for my official visit," Newton-Short told IBG, with his official visit set for the weekend of June 7. Running backs coach Latrell Scott has spearheaded efforts that former assistant Gunter Brewer once began, but the departure of Maryland's former wide receiver coach hasn't impacted Newton-Short's impression of Maryland. "I wouldn't say that because I still like Maryland as a program. The culture they've built up there that coach Locksley has built, and plus I have a good relationship with coach Locksley. Yeah, it hurts to have Brewer gone but it's still one of my top schools. Coach Scott's relationship with my people, my people at home, he cares more than football. He cares about me so we're real close." Another local target has locked in his visit date to Maryland as Good Counsel (MD) offensive tackle Eidan Buchanan will take his official visit to College Park the weekend of June 13, he told IBG. Buchanan and Gavin Crawford, a starting guard for the Falcons and top target for Maryland in the cycle, will take their official visit to Maryland during the same weekend as the staff looks to bolster the trenches and close on the summer commitment targets. Buchanan, a 6-foot-325 pound offensive line target, is someone that Maryland has been hard after dating back to last summer with assistant James Thomas leading the way. Buchanan unofficially visited Maryland last summer before returning for a pair of games, then returning again in January alongside Crawford and five-star safety Faheem Delane. “I talk to coach the most. He recruits Good Counsel so he’s the guy I feel like I talk to. I have a pretty close relationship with him. He’s a cool guy. I like coach Braswell too. A lot of coaches show you love, but every time I get up there every coach says what’s up. Every coach is welcoming. Feeling like a priority is a good thing,” Buchanan added. Dillon Newton-Short is not yet rated by On3, while Eidan Buchanan is rated a three-star prospect and an 86 overall by On3, sitting as the 27th-best prospect in Maryland. Related Links
