Maryland football has its latest transfer portal commit of the offseason in the fold with a familiar face now returning to the program.
Tight end Preston Howard, who transferred from Maryland to Auburn following the 2024 season, has transferred back to Maryland football and is now set to end his college career in College Park.
Howard, a former quarterback out of McDonogh, played at Maryland during his first two seasons of college football where he totaled 349 receiving yards and one touchdown on 37 catches in 24 games as a key part in a deep, yet unproven tight end room at the time. But after a four-win season ended the 2024 season, Howard was part of the early offseason departures among other key players on offense alongside Billy Edwards and Roman Hemby among others.
The receiving tight end appeared in all 12 games in his lone season at Auburn and posted ten catches for 84 yards before entering the transfer portal on New Year's Day.
Buzz quickly pointed to a potential reunion between Maryland and Howard where with the Terps losing all three receiving tight ends, the local product fills a role in the revamped passing attack.
Howard returns to Maryland in a room that features tight end Dorian Fleming and sophomore JT Taggart, while Javonte Williams is one of three tight ends who signed in the high school class.
He joins the program with one year of eligibility remaining.
