St. Frances OT Andre Roye flips to Maryland

A flip to USC or sticking with his commitment to Penn State was the expectation, but St. Frances three-star offensive Andre Roye has flipped to Maryland and signed with the Terps.

The 6-foot-6, 320-pound offensive tackle has visited Maryland at least twice as a committed recruit and kept an open line with the staff down the stretch. USC extended a verbal offer and hosted Roye on an official visit over the final weekend into early signing day, but Maryland head coach Mike Locksley pulled off the final flip when it mattered most.

Roye opted for Penn State back in late September after taking summer official visits to Maryland, Rutgers, Arizona State, and Penn State. Maryland has long been a school that has had close relationships to the towering local tackle.

“Ever since they offered me, they’ve hit me up. It was one of those things of course Maryland would be in my top six. Maryland is the hometown team, that’s always an option and they always have that spot for me if I wanted to go or if I didn’t. It’s the love that Maryland shows to their recruits that I like.”

Maryland finished runner-up to Penn State leading into a decision, but Roye’s flip gives the Terps their fourth offensive tackle this cycle.

Maryland is now up to 16 commitments and jumps two spots to 41st nationally with a chance to rise further through the day.
