Second-year OL Ja'Kavion Nonar announces intent to enter transfer portal

Second-year offensive tackle Ja'Kavion Nonar became the second player to announce his departure from Maryland ahead of the Dec. 4 transfer portal window. "To begin, I would like to thank God and The University of Maryland coaching staff for the amazing opportunity and time at the University of Maryland. The help and support will always be remembered, and held near and dear to my heart. After long talks and prayers with my family, I have decided to enter my name into the NCAA Transfer Portal with 3 years of eligibility left. To my Terp family: Best of luck, love to everyone of you, greatness awaits you all," Nonar wrote on X/Twitter. In two seasons with the program, Nonar appeared in one game after rotating in during Maryland's season-opening win against Towson. Nonar signed with Maryland as a former three-star prospect in the 2022 class, one of two linemen from Glades Central (FL) who inked with the Terps. Nonar joined the program alongside Keon Kindred, who transferred to Akron ahead of the 2023 season, as the offensive tackle ran with the twos during fall camp. Andre Roye took over with the twos during the open portion of practices over the last weeks of the 2023 regular season. With the college football season inching closer, Nonar joins freshman Tamarcus Cooley as the first two portal departures for Maryland as head coach Mike Locksley and the staff look to fill several key needs ahead of the 2024 season.
