Fresh off one commitment this weekend, Maryland men’s basketball will host another portal guard this week.
One week after showing interest, news broke that Colgate guard Jalen Cox is expected to visit Maryland on Tuesday. Cox is expected to visit Creighton today and Kentucky on Wednesday.
Cox, ranked the 169th-best prospect available in the portal, becomes the latest portal guard in the mix after head coach Buzz Williams and his staff cast a wide net to upgrade the backcourt in 2026-27.
The Cali. native is coming off a monster junior season where he was named to the first team All-Patriot League selection, in addition to being named to the All-Defensive team after ranking third in the conference in steals per game (1.7). Cox averaged 17.9 points and 5.2 rebounds on 52.1% shooting from the field and 36.5% from three, all career highs, in 2025-26 while posting three 30-point games. His 5.3 assists also led the conference while his 2.2 assist-to-turnover ratio ranked second in the league.
Maryland, meanwhile, is looking to finalize its roster with four scholarships currently open after former New Mexico forward Tomislav Buljan went public with his decision on Saturday morning. The staff has also watched four departures materialize publicly with Isaiah Watts, Nick Blake, Aleks Alston and Jaziah Harper all currently in the transfer portal.
