The deadline for players to hit the portal and be eligible for the 2022 season is May 1 and a pair of Terps have elected to transfer ahead of the spring game.

Defensive lineman Andre Porter and veteran cornerback Kenny Bennett have entered the transfer portal, now giving Maryland four available scholarships for the 2022 season.

Bennett took advantage of his final year of eligibility to return for the 2022 season, strengthening the depth of Maryland’s cornerback room. With Tarheeb Still, Deonte Banks and Jakorian Bennett sliding into starting roles and Glen Miller flashing as the nickel cornerback, the room loses an experienced piece. Bennett, a former three-star prospect out of the 2017 class, started in three games and played in nine during the 2021 season.

Porter, meanwhile, flipped to Maryland from Boston College to close the 2021 class and was the replacement for former defensive tackle Marcus Bradley. The Ballou product made significant strides in the classroom to make college football a reality, but Porter was among a handful who were injured in Maryland’s second scrimmage. He joins Darrell Jackson and Demeioun Robinson as defensive linemen who have elected to transfer this offseason.

With the attrition, Maryland will now have four scholarships to work with in the transfer portal.
