New Jersey QB Jack Moran raves about Maryland official, talks next steps

Hun School (NJ) quarterback Jack Moran entered this weekend’s official visit already plenty familiar with Maryland after offensive coordinator Josh Gattis made the Terps the first Power Five school to offer during last year’s camp. With Gattis leading the way since then to establish a close relationship with the 6-foot-4.5, 225-pound quarterback, the vibe around the coaches and players throughout Moran’s official visit gave him a different glimpse into the program. “Everything that we were able to do with the coaches and the players, I think it really kind of showed me what Maryland football was and what they're about,” he told IBG. “I've been there before and even seeing the practices, spending that much time around them for two days there kind of just reassured the fact that that's a place where I want to play college football.” “A lot of it, I kind of knew. Like the motto, the theme of the team and what they're about. I think, like I said, just being around the coaches and hearing them talk about the program constantly again just reassured that the program is going in the right direction, they're doing the right thing. I think they'll be competing for Big Ten championships soon.” Second-year tight end AJ Szymanski served as Moran’s host, but he was far from the only player Moran spent time with. “That was our first time meeting and I think we connected pretty well, but almost all the recruits and their hosts, we were together the whole time so there wasn't really any host. Everyone was just showing love to everyone,” he added. “We took the dinner boat , that was really nice, got to do some karaoke on the boat too.” Moran’s previous visit came in the spring where he was able to sit in the quarterback room, observing head coach Mike Locksley work with his revamped unit during practice. With a clear vision of what Maryland does offensively, the two were able to spend one-on-one time to watch how Moran fits in Locksley’s offense. “Me and coach Locksley, we got a chance to sit down. They do like a walk-through practice and then me and coach Locks went to the quarterback room, sat down, pulled up some of my film and showed some of their plays in their offense that were similar to my plays. A lot of it is the same stuff, and they want a pro-style quarterback to toss it around and I think I fit that very well. The clips kind of showed that.” Maryland isn’t the only contender for the New Jersey quarterback as Moran has an official visit locked in to East Carolina for the weekend of June 21, but where does Moran stand with Terps coming out of the visit? “We're waiting to see until they get through the rest of their to see if another kid commits. I should know where I'm making my decision by early July, maybe late June,” Moran said. “It was a very memorable, enjoyable visit and I'm glad I went.
