The bye week clearly wasn’t enough to help Maryland end its losing streak after dropping Saturday’s contest against Northwestern, 33-27, falling to 5-3 (2-3) on the season. Maryland will now look to pull a 180-degree turn on the season when tenth-ranked Penn State heads to College Park this weekend, but the betting books aren’t expecting Maryland to do so.
Maryland opened as an 11.5-point underdog against Penn State, per DraftKings, while FanDuel opened the line at 10.5 points.
Penn State has won seven of the last nine matchups and hasn’t lost in College Park since Nov. 4, 1961. Penn State needed all 60 minutes to defeat Indiana on Saturday in a 33-24 win, moving to 7-1 (4-1) on the season, as quarterback Drew Allar threw his second interception of the season.
As for Maryland, they’re coming off another puzzling loss, two weeks removed from their first puzzling loss of the season. Not only does Maryland now face a steep hill to climb when it comes to fan support, but head coach Mike Locksley will now look to guide the Terps to their first win since September.
“Disappointing loss. Give Northwestern credit but they outplayed us. They outplayed us. They outhustled us. They out hit us. And when that happens, you gotta look at everything, including myself and all the way down our roster,” Maryland head coach Mike Locksley said following the loss. “Anybody that made this trip played a part in what happened today, and it’s really disappointing. We had some opportunities that we didn’t take advantage of. And guess what? Nobody’s gonna feel sorry for us so I don’t expect that. The only thing we can do is to get back on track is us. It starts with me, all the way down to every player on our roster to get this thing back on track. This one was really disappointing.”
Kickoff is set for 3:30 PM EST on Saturday and will be broadcast on FOX.
