Maryland men's lacrosse falls to Ohio State in Big Ten Tournament championship, awaits NCAA Tournament fate

After taking down the Buckeyes in Columbus less than a month ago, Maryland men’s lacrosse fell 14-10 against Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament championship game on Saturday night in a game that slipped away quickly.

It took Ohio State just 42 seconds to break the seal on the game’s scoring, but it would mark the first of several after five players scored five goals to give the Buckeyes an early 5-0 lead less than seven minutes into the game before eventually taking a 6-1 lead into the second quarter. A pair of goals from Eric Spanos trimmed the deficit to 9-5 at halftime. But the Buckeyes would answer right out of the half after adding two more, stretching their lead back to six, before goals from Elijah Stobaugh in the third and Bryce Ford in the fourth trimmed the deficit back to four.

Maryland would never get closer than that, though, as a pair of goals from Bryce Ford in the fourth quarter cemented a 14-10 loss as the Terps ended the game scoreless for the final 9:41.

Logan McNaney posted ten saves in the loss, his 12th game of the season with double-digit saves, but posted a season-low 41.7% save in the loss.

"We've been chasing them for 10 years," Buckeyes head coach Nick Myers said. "They are the standard for this conference so congratulations to them."

Despite the loss, Daniel Kelly, Eric Spanos and Logan McNaney were all named to the Big Ten All-Tournament Team.

Maryland, now likely projected as a two or three-seed following Saturday’s loss, will await its fate in the 2025 NCAA Tournament with the selection show beginning tonight at 9:30 PM EST on ESPNU.
