Maryland men's lacrosse draws accolades, top spot in preseason polls

With their season opener against Richmond coming up in less than two weeks, the 2026 preseason polls and All-American lists are dropping. Several Terps made the USA Lacrosse preseason All-American teams, and the Terps find themselves atop two of the biggest polls in the country in the Inside Lacrosse Media poll and the USA Lacrosse poll.

After bringing in a top-five recruiting class, and the top-ranked transfer class in 2026, the Terps have arguably their strongest squad since 2022 when they last won the title heading into the 2026 season and people are noticing. On the Inside Lacrosse media preseason poll, the Terps had 17 of 23 first place votes. Of the six people that did not pick the Terps first, all of them had the Terps in the #2 ranked spot. The other teams that got first place votes were Princeton who came in at #2, Cornell who came in at #4, and North Carolina who came in at #6.

On the USA Lacrosse poll, the Terps took the top spot over Syracuse and Princeton who were #2 and #3. With the Terps yet again loaded schedule, the Terps have ten of their 12 regular season opponents ranked with Delaware and Loyola starting the season unranked.

Seven total Terps received USA Lacrosse preseason All-American honors with Will Schaller and Eric Kolar leading the way as the only two on the first team squad. No one was named to the second team but Eirc SPanos was the third Terp that received honors when he was named to the third team squad. Braden Erska, Henry Dodge, George Stamos, and AJ Larkin all received honorable mentions. The seven Terps receiving the All-American honors is tied for the most in the country along with Princeton.

The Terps are gearing up for their 2026 season and have many people on notice. The Terps will take on the Spiders from Richmond in Richmond on January 31st. The game is set to face-off at noon ET and will be airing on ESPN+.
