Maryland men's basketball to open Big Ten Tournament vs. Oregon

With the 2025-26 regular season over, details for Maryland men’s basketball’s Big Ten Tournament run have officially been finalized.

Maryland finished 17th in the Big Ten and will face Oregon on Tuesday, March 10 with tipoff set for 5 PM ET. The winner will face Iowa on Wednesday with Ohio State looming in the third round on Thursday.

The two teams met once this season with the Ducks securing a 64-54 win, while Maryland enters Tuesday with just a 6-9 overall record in the Big Ten Tournament. This will mark the first times the two teams have met in the Big Ten Tournament.

Oregon finished the regular season 12-19 (5-15) overall, though ended the regular season on a high note after taking down Washington, 85-79, to snap a two-game losing streak. Oregon also boasts a 14-point win over Wisconsin in February

Maryland is coming off year one under head coach Buzz Williams that ended far worse than anyone could have predicted ahead of the season opener. Maryland finished 11-20 (4-16) for the most conference losses in program history and the first 20-loss regular season since 1988-89. Maryland’s 7-8 record at home also marks the worst record since the 1988-89 season.

While Maryland will look to put a miracle together this upcoming week, the day for Buzz Williams and his staff to turn the page from the worst season in program history is quickly approaching with a need for major roster upgrades this offseason.

“I think early in my head coaching career, I was too result based in my decisions, how I went about things. I think as I've matured as a person, that somewhat changed,” Williams said ahead of Senior Day. “Trying to make sure that the process is appropriate, similar to my question with Ed. Like we recruit every day, and I've learned from some of the changes, it's really the process. And within the process, what are you doing as a head coach, your staff, your team? How can you make amendments and adjustments in the process that will lead to the results that you're wanting?”
