Maryland men’s basketball is set to return to action on Sunday with tipoff against 11th-ranked Illinois set for 3 PM. Prior to the final regular season game getting underway, Maryland will also honor its senior class with four players set to be honored.
Diggy Coit
After arriving as maybe the X-factor on the roster, Coit proved to be the microwave in Maryland’s offense for much of the 2025-26 season. Coit has registered 40 points or more in two games, including an Xfinity Center record 43 points in the win vs. Penn State. The 43 points also finished one shy of Ernie Graham’s program-best 44 points set back in 1978, while Coit’s 15 field goal attempts against Penn State tied a single-game program record. He also enters Sunday ranked tenth in career points among Big Ten players as the Kansas transfer has proven to be an integral piece in the rotation. Coit has started in 13 starts and played in all 30 games as he averages 13.6 points in his final season of eligibility. Coit began his college career at Northern Illinois before transferring to Kansas in 2024-25 then Maryland this past season.
Collin Metcalf
Arriving as the primary backup center following his time at Northeastern, Metcalf saw his role evolve through his first and only season with the program. Metcalf has started the last nine games and made his first start back on Nov. 19 against Mount St. Mary’s where he’s proven to be a defensive presence for Buzz Williams. Metcalf has registered just 34 rebounds all season though boasts 12 blocks, including 13 over his last ten games. He’s also registered at least 15 minutes over that stretch, a mark he’s eclipsed just once prior to February.
Elijah Saunders
The San Diego State and Virginia transfer has had a hot-and-cold lone season at Maryland. Saunders was praised by head coach Buzz Williams prior to the start of the regular season as he went on to start in 29 games and appear in all 30 where he’s flashed as an inside-out scorer. Metcalf is 15-of-31 from three over his last four games and is shooting 43.8% from the floor and 40.2% from three while averaging 9.1 points and 4.5 rebounds per game. He’s also posted double figures scoring in five of his last seven games while making at least three threes in each of his last four games.
Solomon Washington
One of four Aggies who followed Buzz Williams from Texas A&M to Maryland, Washington had a slow start to his season after battling back from a lower leg injury suffered in offseason workouts. That proved to be the theme of his lone season in College Park as Washington proved himself as the on-court leader for Maryland. His two points at Wisconsin snapped a six-game streak scoring in double figures as he averages just under a double-double - 10.2 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. A starter in 19 of his 22 appearances, Washington has recorded at least one turnover in 18 of his 22 games this season.
