Game one of the Buzz Williams era in College Park is officially set.
Maryland will kick off the home portion of the 2025-26 season vs. Georgetown on Nov. 7, the program announced on Wednesday morning. The home opener is set four days after Maryland kicks off the season vs. Coppin State at CFG Bank Arena in Baltimore, the first of two games in a double-header as part of the Naismith Hall of Fame series.
This will mark the first meeting between Maryland and Georgetown since Nov. 15, 2016 when the Terps stormed out of the Verizon Center with a one-point win after trailing double digits in the second half and by nine points with 3:52 left. Kevin Huerter, now with the Chicago Bulls, delivered both the game winning free throws before blocking Georgetown’s Jagan Mosely as time expired to secure the comeback win.
Maryland head coach Buzz Williams is 3-1 all-time vs. Georgetown head coach Ed Cooley, dating back to their matchups at Marquette and Providence, while Cooley is winless in his two games all-time against Maryland. While Cooley will look to change that, he’ll also head to College Park with another familiar face on his roster as former Maryland guard DeShawn Harris-Smith transferred from Maryland to Georgetown this offseason.
Maryland has won four of its last five against the Hoyas and leads the all-time series, 38-27, while the upcoming matchup marks the first in a four-year series with Georgetown set to host in 2026-27 and 2028-29.
Season tickets for the 2025-26 season are now on sale starting as low as $199. Fans can purchase tickets at www.UMTerps.com, by calling the XFINITY Center Ticket Office (301-314-7060), or visiting the Ticket Office on Monday through Friday between 9 AM and 4 PM.
