Maryland men's basketball adds five games to non-conference schedule

While Maryland men’s basketball fans have a trio of marquee nonconference games to look ahead to, including a mid-November home game vs. Marquette, head coach Kevin Willard will welcome a handful of local programs to the Xfinity Center this fall with four more games finalized. Maryland will host Mount St. Mary’s, Florida A&M, Canisius, Saint Francis and University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Rocco Miller reported on Friday. Maryland has never lost to any of the five mentioned teams. Maryland is 11-0 all-time vs. Mount St. Mary’s as the Terps pulled out a 15-point win to kick off the 2023-24 season in the last matchup. Maryland has only faced Florida A&M once before when Mike Jones’ game-high 16 points led the way to a 39-point win back in 2006, while the Terps also secured a 41-point win in the lone matchup against Saint Francis. Meanwhile, Maryland is 7-0 all-time vs. Canisius with the last matchup back in 1983, while the Terps hold a perfect 18-0 record against UMES with a 53-point win in the last matchup back in 2017. While UMES is looking for a new head coach after parting ways with Jason Crafton after five seasons with the program, Canisius will also be led by new leadership after former Boston College head coach Jim Christian was introduced as the program’s newest head coach this offseason. Maryland has previously announced games against both Villanova and Marquette, the latter being announced as a home-and-home beginning in 2024-25, while Maryland will also face Syracuse at the Barclays Center on Dec. 21.
